What is the Mediterranean diet? It's a return to the fresh, natural, healthy eating habits of the Mediterranean.

Why should you care? Because health and weight loss with the diet is no coincidence.

Here's the problem with the bodies that we were born with, they did not come with a manufacture's instruction manual.

So we have had to figure it out along the way. Always looking for what’s the best stuff to feed our bodies to get maximum enjoyment and minimum problems from it.

Unfortunately, there are no shortage of opinions on the subject.

So when someone asks me what is the Mediterranean diet? I tell them it's 180 degrees from the self proclaimed experts, researchers and new age gurus who are always trying to sell you the latest and greatest diet fad.

It's 180 degrees from the magic potions and pills that suggest you can melt the pounds away as you sleep.

It's 180 degrees from the hype about a new super food that will change your life.

And it's 180 degrees from the internet insanity that cranks out ideas on diet and nutrition as fast as you can click.

What is the Mediterranean diet? It's a dose of reality.

You see food is simply fuel that keeps us running. And for 60 years scientists have been taking note of the foods that make the human engine run smoothly and the foods that gum up the works. You know, the foods that create heart disease, diabetes, cancer and last but not least...FAT.

What the world of science has confirmed is, the Mediterranean diet is the real deal. The Mediterranean Diet, in combination with exercise, is probably the closest mankind can get to the manufacturer's recommended fuel intake for a long, happy and problem free life.

So now when someone asks you "what is the Mediterranean diet," you can tell them it's like nothing they've ever tried before.

Because it's not food that corporations have processed, stuffed with preservatives and packaged. Nor is it a new diet one of the so called experts has come up with, that in the long run, we all know is only temporary weight loss.

It''s simply fresh, natural food and combinations of food that have been eaten for decades and proven to enhance your body's health and help it lose the excess weight.

In fact it's not really a diet, but a lifestyle choice. That's also why when you lose weight, you keep it off, permanently.

But, don't panic, you can still have fun in the kitchen. It’s still loose enough to allow for plenty of tasty experimentation with a wide variety of affordable produce available anywhere.

And lastly, you can tell them, you don't need any branded super-foods, books, DVD’s or memberships in anything. You just need a desire to get healthy, and lose weight.
