I know life can get pretty hectic trying to juggle a personal life with a professional one. You usually end up spending most of your time just trying to keep your head above water.

So you make the mistake of believing that you can’t improve yourself, that you don’t deserve happiness, you feel sorry for yourself and accept your unhappy situation as your lot in life.

The truth of the matter is that your life, your happiness, like anything else, just needs to be tended, cultivated and nurtured. Kind of like gardening, but instead of plants, healthy living tips are about growing your own personal happiness.

So here’s 10 healthy living tips to help you start nurturing your life. These are not totally new ideas, you've heard them before, (they have been around for centuries) but a little refresher never hurts.

1. Live in the present.

People tend to get too preoccupied with things in the past, or what their expectations of the future should be.

Can’t live like that. Got to be in the here and now. This allows you to appreciate the small things, a good meal, a good conversation, the beauty of nature, or one of those random acts of kindness that can happen at anytime, anywhere.

We’re often blinded to those because we’re so focused on why life hasn’t gone or isn’t going the way we think it should.

Tomorrow, get up in the morning, take a breath of air and think, today’s a good day, and enjoy it. Besides, what else is there, the past is history and the future is a mystery.

2.Have confidence in yourself.

If you don’t have confidence in yourself, of your behavior and actions, then you’ll probably walk around most of the day with an uncomfortable feeling second-guessing everything you do.

If, on the other hand, you have confidence in yourself, you tend to become relaxed and gain freedom to make decisions and do more of what you really want.

To not have confidence is a big obstacle in personal growth. You may have all the right tools to grow, but if you feel an inner resistance. You can’t get there.

These are called success barriers. You are putting up barriers in your own mind of what you can do, or deserve.

These barriers tell you that you aren’t really that kind of person that could do this thing that you’re attempting.

And if you make some headway, you may start to sabotage yourself. To keep yourself in a place that is familiar for you.

So you need give yourself permission to be confident, and allow yourself to be who you want to be.

The first step is to not look for the approval from others. You only need approval from yourself. Start standing on your own two feet.

This will start to dissolve that inner barrier that holds you back, that self-sabotaging tendency. This is easier said than done and it can take time.

But hang in there; healthy living tips are a process.

3.Your limitations, are they real?

The thing about limitations is, they really don’t exist. Except in our minds.

How many times have you thought that people will disapprove because you are too short, too old or not attractive enough?

Here’s the big revelation. These things mostly only matter when you think they matter. You give them power when you become self-conscious and worried about what “people may think”.

So you interpret anything they do as a negative reaction because you are so self absorbed with yourself and fearful of a bad reaction.

Try this healthy living tip instead; quit thinking about your limitations.

Because when you stop thinking about them, they’ll stop being part of a self-imposed roadblock in your life.

Life’s funny like this, when you don’t mind your limitations, other people tend not to mind them that much either.

Never forget, it’s hardly ever too late to get what you want out of life.

4. Have a good laugh.

Humor and laughter are amazing tools. A little wit can take the drama out of just about any situation and give you something to laugh about.

And a lighter mood relaxes the mind, the muscles and creates an environment free of negativity. Negative emotions are toxic and do no one any good.

At home, when you are more light-hearted and relaxed you’re a lot more fun to be around.

And at work, staying loose and looking at the funny side of things tends to stimulate the problem solving process producing solutions instead of frustration.

Healthy living tips are about laughing. So laugh damn it, it will improve you life.

5. Anger, got to let it go.

Anger is like taking poison in an effort to hurt someone else. It’s most of the time, pretty pointless.

It can cause situations to go spiraling out of control creating yet more anger. Healthy living tips are about learning to let it go. Life’s too short to spend it letting something eat away at you.

So even if you feel angry with someone for days, recognize that you’re mostly just hurting yourself. The other person may not even be aware that you’re angry with them.

So here’s what you do. Either talk to the person and resolve the conflict, or let go of the anger as quickly as possible and move on.

Just don’t let it eat at you, that’s no way to live life.

6. No one owes you a life.

As you grow older you may feel a sort of entitlement. You’ve been playing by the rules and now feel like the world should just give you what you want, or that it owes you something.

But in the game of life, nothing could be further from the truth. The world does not owe you a brilliant career, a happy relationship or a reason for being. The world does not owe you or anyone else a thing.

Of all the healthy living tips this one may be the hardest to sink in. Because your sense of entitlement can cause a lot of anger and frustration in your life.

On the other hand, recognizing this can be liberating too. That in the end it’s up to you to shape your own life and for you to work towards what you want.

You are not a kid anymore, waiting for your parents or the world to give you something.

You are in the driver’s seat now. And you can go pretty much wherever you want. So get out there and do it.

7. Self improvement.

Got a new idea you want to share at work, or making some positive lifestyle changes in your life?

Well, not everybody will want you to succeed. Some may be happy for you, but there will be those who are puzzled or react in negative and discouraging ways.

Don’t worry; most of these reactions are probably not so much about you but about the people who say it and their lack luster life.

It’s just how they feel about themselves coming through in the words they use and judgments they make about you.

And that’s OK. Just don’t let what other people may say and think hold you back, healthy living tips are about moving your life forward.

Beside, soon all the negative nellies will be back to focusing on their own challenges and frustrations soon enough.

8. Focus, it takes practice.

How healthy living tips play out for you will depend on how you focus your mind on situations.

You can focus on life’s problems, unfairness and wallow in mental suffering. And you become a victim.

Or you can focus on the positive in situation, like what you can learn from that situation.

We all are programmed to dwell on problems, but you need to start practicing to instead, refocus your mind on something more useful.

By practicing daily, you can start to build a habit of learning to gain more and more control of where you put your focus.

This will change the way things turn out in your life.

9. It’s not about you, at least not at first.

This may seem a bit counter-intuitive. But one of the best healthy living tips, and ways to feel good about your self is to make someone else feel good.

It could be as simple as helping a friend or stranger without them asking. Those positive feelings are contagious, and you may end up making them feel good too.

Try it, and don’t be surprised if people start coming out of the blue to help you.

10. Go for it. And no one says it better than Mark Twain.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Got to love this guy, I wrote it on a post it and stuck it on my bathroom mirror. You might think about doing the same.
