healthy food list

My healthy food list of the top 10 healthiest vegetables I live by. Add them to your diet and I’m sure they will improve your health as well.

healthy food list

1-Collard Greens: Taste and look great on a plate. This veggie has a reputation for fighting cancer. Three of it's power punch nutrients are sulforaphane, selenium, and diindolymethane. All have all been researched and shown to have cancer fighting properties. And if that’s not enough, it’s also bursting with vitamin E, calcium, and beta-carotene. This is a MVP of the healthiest vegetables list.

2-Sweet Potatoes: You love the way they taste, but did you know their anti-oxidant properties can help to rid the body of free radicals linked to many chronic illnesses including diabetes and colon cancer. But there’s more, they’re also a good source of iron, calcium and fiber, and last but not least, they can be prepared in so many different ways (these belong on everybody's healthy food list).

3-Broccoli: These little green friends of ours are bursting with vitamins C and A, as well as containing a compound called sulforaphane. The healthy food list is not complete without them. Sulforaphane is one of the best things about broccoli. It's an anti-microbial compound that also stimulates your cells to create cancer-fighting enzymes. Can’t have enough of them on your team.

4-Red peppers: (The Bell Pepper kind) You like them for their looks and their ability to add a certain zest to your recipes. But they’re also loaded with plenty of Vitamins C and A, and because they are loaded with vitamin B6 and folic acid, they can seriously reduce your risk of heart-related illnesses and stroke. And if that is not enough, these sweet veggies are pack’n antioxidants, which make them another vegetable that fights off the aging effects of free radicals.

healthy food list5- Asparagus: Asparagus is unique among vegetables, it’s one of the few loaded in vitamin E, making it great for skin health. Plus it also contains a lot of potassium, vitamin B6, and fiber as well. Another interesting thing about asparagus is it’s two antioxidants called "glutathione" and "rutin". Glutathione has been shown to have cancer-fighting qualities, while rutin is great for strengthening the walls of your capillaries. This veggie is on my “All Star Team” and should be on yours as well.

6- Onions. Onions rock. They have a flavanoid (Antioxidant) called quercetin, which just so happens to be the most active of all flavanoids. These antioxidants help your body to reduce the damaging effects of free radicals, it’s a constant battle so you can’t have to many of them. Onions also are great for reducing inflammation, as well as having anti-tumor qualities. Eat them any way you want, but eat them.

7-Spinach: Popeye made it famous, and for good reason. Spinach does have an above average amount of iron in it, but it has many other nutritional benefits that may be even more important. It‘s loaded with magnesium, vitamin E, vitamin A and vitamin C, making it a very nutritionally dense vegetable (meaning it packed to the ceiling with nutrition). If it was good enough for Popeye, it’s good enough for you.

8-Celery: I like celery for it’s weight loss help (as a snack, the calorie content of celery is incredibly low). But it made the healthy food list for it’s power packed nutrition (that's what got it on the healthiest vegetables list). It's loaded up with potassium, calcium, vitamins C and A, and magnesium! So much goodness and convenience in those little green sticks, I never tire of them.

9-Carrots: What’s up Doc? Carrots aren’t just for rabbits, they can be used in anything from a stew to a snack tray and packed with fiber and vitamin K. But they got their rep from containing beta-carotene, which out body converts into vitamin A. Too little vitamin A and your vision will suffer, but fortunately it can be repaired by getting more of it back into your body. So eat carrots, your eyes will thank you.

10-Eggplant: This purple miracle is low in calories, making it a popular if you’re trying to lose weight (which is just about everyone these days). It’s also carrying high levels of copper, potassium and fiber. And here’s what got it on the healthy food list, eggplant is known for fighting for your right to cardiovascular health. Yea, that’s what I’m talking about.

They'll be no shortage of opinions on which vegetables should be on the healthy food list, so do what I do and keep them all on the menu. By adding these to your diet you'll be on the right track to burning fat and becoming a healthier, happier you.

Smile…Gigi
