1. Expand your range of healthy food choices to include a variety of delicious foods. This keeps it interesting, doesn't matter if we're talking veggies, fruits, nuts or whatever. Variety is key. Just keep'em natural, fresh and organic and you're good to go. 2. Factor in your age, sex, height, weight, and physical activity and figure out how many calories are right for you on a daily basis. Eating to lose weight is maintaining a balance between your calorie intake and calorie expenditure—that is, don't eat more food than your body uses. This is one of the more obvious, yet commonly ignored healthy eating tips. The recommended daily allowance is 2,000 calories, but this depends on each individual. Do your homework. 3. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes. These are high in complex carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Plus, these are low in fat and free of cholesterol. 4. Try to get fresh, local produce. The less it has to travel, the fresher and healthier it is for you. Besides, you'll be supporting your local farmers. 5. Avoid "recreational eating" products, they're just a bunch of over processed, artificial, empty calories (there's a reason they call'em junk food) that will make you fat and increase your risk to all kinds of chronic disease.
6. It's never too late to make healthy eating tips part of your lifestyle. Look for the many health snacks, healthy fast food and healthy restaurants out there. As always, keep your food fresh, natural and organic. Note: Chips in plastic bags are not fresh, natural or organic, no matter what it says on the packaging. 7. Keep portions moderate, especially high-calorie foods. In recent years, serving sizes have grown, particularly in restaurants. Only eat half your entree. Take the rest home, give it to a homeless person, just don't eat it. 8. Try choosing a starter instead of an entrée, split a dish with a friend. Last but not least, don’t say "supersize me" ever again.
9. Start to limit sugary foods, salt, and refined-grain products. In a year, just one daily 12-ounce can of soda (160 calories) can increase your weight by 16 pounds and your risk to diabetes. 10. Learn to read food labels and cut out the refined grains, salts and sugars as much as you can. Your body will love you for it.
Never forget: A healthy diet combined with exercise will not only drop the pounds, it will also improve your energy and feelings of well-being.
But don't expect healthy eating tips to work over night. it took time to gain all the fat, and it will take time to take it off. Smiles…Gigi
