It's simple really. If you believe you can build up a walking or running program to 30 minutes a day, you will be more likely to stick with the program to meet your goal. If you believe in eating healthy and losing weight, you’re much more likely to shun recreational eating and achieve your weight loss goal. But the opposite is also true. Your thoughts can be defeating. “I don’t have time to do my walk” or “I can't lose weight, so it doesn't matter if I eat processed junk food.” The effects of positive thinking and negative thinking are both contagious. So think positive thoughts, surround yourself with positive people, you'll reap the benefits of positive thinking. Doom and gloom friends will suck the life out of you, making it hard for you to maintain healthy behaviors, such as consistent exercising or healthy eating for weight loss. Avoid the “Negative Nelly’s,” life’s too short. The success of positive-thinkers has been documented. Positive thinking and the confidence it gives you is key to a successful behavior change. Another bonus to the effects of positive thinking is you'll also become less critical of the world around you. This will make you a much more pleasant person to be around. That’s good for your family, your friends and your co-workers. But if you tend to have a negative outlook, don't expect to become an optimist overnight. Just practice the power of positive thinking (good thoughts) everyday and eventually your negativity will be replaced with an attitude of “can do.” No matter what life throws your way, you’ll have the right attitude to plow through it and reach your goals. -----10 POSITIVE THINKING TIPS TO HELP YOU ON YOUR WAY----- 1. Take Care of Yourself. It's much easier to embrace the power of positive thinking when you are eating healthy, exercising, and getting enough sleep. Stick with foods that help lose weight. 2. Avoid hyper-focusing on negatives. It's never productive, it's just excessive worry. Try changing your physical environment - go for a walk - sit outside - call a friend - pick up a book, just don’t use food as an distraction. 3. Start with small goals that do not require drastic life changes; like leaving three bites of hamburger on your plate, or start drinking water instead of sodas, or park far away from the store when shopping. Hey, you got to start somewhere. 4. Listen to uplifting songs, watch uplifting movies and surround yourself with uplifting images. Music, movies and art can dramatically change your mood and kick start the power of positive thinking. 5. Give a hug, get a hug. Positive physical contact with friends, loved ones, and even pets, is an instant pick-me-up. You don't have to be an expert to know the emotional benefits of a good hug, everybody needs them. 6. Surround your self with positive people and shun the negative ones. Time spent with negative people can end up making you feel bad even if you were feeling good in the beginning. Your life will be much more pleasant and your weight loss goals easier to attain if you surround yourself with positive people. 7. Smiling and a good laugh can change your mood, no matter what kind of day you’ve had. So do some self-medicating every time you feel your mood darkening; watch a funny movie or spend time with a friend who tells good jokes. Just laugh damn it, it's just another one of the effects of positive thinking. 8. Get involved in charity work. Not only will you realize the massive number of people out there with bigger problems than yours, you’ll also experience the emotional high of helping others. 9. Take a minute everyday to give yourself a moral boost. Remind yourself that; you can make positive changes, you can lose weight, you’re worth the effort and you deserve happiness. The effects of positive thinking are yours if you want them. 10. Never forget; your attitude is something you can control. You can choose to have a positive outlook and feel better about yourself, your health and your happiness. It does not matter what your circumstances are at the present moment. Think positively, expect only favorable results and situations, and circumstances will change accordingly. It may take some time for the changes to take place, but eventually they do. On that note, I'm going to leave you with one more of my favorite positive thinking quotes, "It's never too late to do something about your weight". Smiles…Gigi
