---------------------RUNNING TIPS / TECHNIQUE------------------------

Look Ahead
Learn how to run without staring at your feet. Your eyes should be focused ahead of you about 10 to 20 feet. This will straighten your neck and back and bring them into alignment. Many running tips are about proper running form, but this is also about safety. Because you need to see what's coming up in front of you. Like cracks in the sidewalk, loose skateboards, dogs off the leash, you hear what I’m saying?

Shoulders
For optimum performance, your shoulders should be low and loose, not high and tight. As you tire, don't let them creep up around your ears. When they do, shake them out to release the tension. Stay loose and relaxed. Your shoulders also need to remain level and shouldn't dip from side to side with each stride. You aren’t dancing, you’re jogging.

Arms
Keep your hands in an unclenched fist, with your fingers lightly touching your palms. Imagine yourself trying to carry an egg in each hand. Your arms should swing mostly forward and back, not across your body. Your elbows should be bent at about a 90-degree angle. When you feel your fists clenching or your forearms tensing, drop your arms to your sides and shake them out for a few seconds to release the tension. The best weight loss program is all about staying loose and relaxed.

Posture
Learn how to run keeping your torso straight and erect. Your head should be up, your back straight, and shoulders level. Check your posture once in a while. When you're tired at the end of your run, it's common to slump over a little, which can lead to neck, shoulder, and lower-back pain. Not to mention restricting your lungs ability to fill to capacity. So run tall, stretch yourself up to your full height with your back comfortably straight. If you feel yourself slouching, poke your chest out. Be proud, you're on the best weight loss program.

Hips
With your torso and back comfortably upright and straight, your hips naturally fall into proper alignment, pointing you straight ahead. If you allow your torso to hunch over or lean too far forward during a run, your pelvis will tilt forward as well, which can put pressure on your lower back and throw the rest of your lower body out of alignment. So as I said before “run tall,” it's all part of the best weight loss program.

Hands
Try to keep your hands at waist level, right about where they might lightly brush your hip. As you run, keep your arms and hands as relaxed as possible. You can gently cup your hands, as if you are holding an egg and you don't want to break it. Don't clench your fists; it leads to tightness in the arms, shoulders, and neck.

Feet
When running with the proper stride length, your feet will land directly underneath your body. As your foot strikes the ground, your knee should be slightly flexed so that it can bend naturally on impact. Don't be a toe runner or a heel-striker. If you land on your toes, your calves will fatigue quickly and you’ll develop shin pain. Try to land on the middle (ball) of your foot, and then roll through to the front of your toes. Your feet should not slap loudly as they hit the ground. Good running is springy and quiet.

Okay, you've read all my "tips for running technique," so the best weight loss program just got better. Time to turn on the treadmill and start burning fat and losing weight.

Smiles…Gigi
